DESCRIPTION:Clay County Democrats are excited to welcome Rebecca Hall\, Director of the Clay County Board of Elections\, and Patty Swanson\, Deputy Director\, as our guest speakers for the evening. The guest speaker presentation will begin promptly at 6:00 PM. \nThe guest speaker will talk regarding the important role of poll workers\, as we prepare to gather and then submit names by mid-August for Democratic poll worker positions for all Clay County precincts. This is a great opportunity to learn about the responsibilities and challenges poll workers face during an election cycle. \nIf you’re considering becoming a poll worker\, this session will give you insight into the training\, time commitment\, and duties involved in the upcoming two-year term. Note: While only the Hayesville precincts have municipal elections this year\, all precincts will participate in primaries and midterm elections next year. \nAll Clay County voters are invited to attend our monthly meeting at The Corner Coffee Shop in Hayesville.  The Clay County Democratic Party monthly meeting is on the fourth Tuesday of each month with our guest speaker starting at 6:00 PM followed by an opportunity to socialize at 6:30.  The CCDP holds its business meeting starting around 7:00 PM\, and this portion of the meeting is open for all Democrats to attend if they wish.

DESCRIPTION:Building Community is a non-partisan monthly event intended to build strength within our own community to fight back against attempts to weaken our Democracy.  After the last election many of us have been experiencing a range of emotions— anger\, frustration\, disappointment\, uncertainty—and that these feelings can sometimes feel isolating.  Please know that you are not alone and that we are much stronger as a group.  Please join us the first Sunday of each month at 4:00 PM at the Corner Coffee Shop (MJs) in Hayesville for educational presentations\, riveting discussion\, and practical actions we can take to strengthen our community and our Democracy. \nFeel free to bring a to bring a personal snack and/or drink\, or finger foods if you wish to share. \nNOTE: Although Building Community is a local event addressing issues originating from our community members\, we have an affiliation with the national group\, Indivisible due to the overlap of common goals.  We believe we can learn\, grow\, and share more effectively with this affiliation.

DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT NOTE:  This month we will start meeting on the third Tuesday (instead of 4th) and at our new location at the United Community Bank community room and meeting start time is 5:30 PM.  \nAll Clay County voters are invited to attend our monthly meeting at the United Community Bank community room in Hayesville.  This is a new venue for meetings and we plan to continue meeting here for future meetings as well.   We are also introducing a new meeting format this month where we will have a half hour to socialize at the beginning of the meeting which now starts at 5:30PM.  Social time will end and our guest speaker will start promptly at 6:00 PM.  Finally\, the business meeting will start at the conclusion of our guest speaker’s presentation\, typically around 6:30 PM and runs about a half an hour.   The business portion of the meeting is open for all to attend\, and any Clay County registered democrats may vote in business meeting motions if they wish. \nThis month\, we’ll focus on shaping our strategic plan for the next election cycle. We’ll start by reviewing the goals from our 2022 plan and identifying which still apply\, which need updating\, and what new priorities should be added. Here are the 2022 goals for your consideration: \n\nIncrease our volunteer network in advance of the Midterm Primary Election\nCreate & maintain a strong community presence through the Midterm General Election\nGenerate more awareness of Democratic values & facilitate conversations focused on local issues\nMake Clay County party communications more consistent and engaging\nKeep the Clay County community informed of our activities and events\nRaise money to support the work and activities through the Midterm General Election\nRecruit Democratic candidates to run for local office\nSecure more votes from unaffiliated voters\nEnsure smooth transition of county party leadership from election cycle to election cycle\n\nIvor Groves has graciously agreed to lead the strategic planning process. SUMMARY:Clay County Democratic Party Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT NOTE:  We are returning to our original venue at the Corner Coffee & Wine Shop (a.k.a. “MJ’s”\,”Keep Me Posted”)  for our meetings since the United Community Bank community room fell short of expectations.  We are also returning to the 4th Tuesday of the month schedule.   \nThis Month we will continue to focus on the Clay County Democratic Party Strategic Plan.  Ivor Groves will continue to lead us through the brainstorming and development of goals and measurable objectives to achieve these goals.   We had participation from many community members last meeting and we hope to continue to have their valuable insights and contributions this meeting as well as we forge our plan. \nClay County Strategic Plan Status\nAs part of the monthly CCDP meeting on June 17\, we began work reviewing and updating our strategic work plan for 2025-27. About 15 members participated; the tasks were organized and facilitated by Ivor Groves. We reviewed our 2019-21 plan\, identifying our accomplishments\, then moved on to reviewing the NC State Dems goals for the current cycle. Consensus was reached on aligning our goals with those of the state organization. \nNC State Dem Goals \n1. Focus on continuous organization and training throughout the year\n2. Strengthen the party’s foundational structure and resources\n3. Develop and disseminate key messages that resonate with voters\n4. Aim to regain control of the NC Supreme Court by 2028\n5. Work towards winning control of the NC General Assembly by 2030 to influence redistricting \nClay County Dem Goals \n1. Get Democrats elected locally and statewide (relates to state goals 3\,4\,5)\n2. Clearly define and state our values as Americans as they apply to Clay County\n(from our website)\n3. Communicate clearly to engage with our community (relates to state goal 3)\n4. Raise funds to achieve our goals (relates to state goals 1 and 2) \nThe group made considerable progress identifying strategies for reaching Goals 1 and 2. More work will be focused on Goals 3 and 4 at the next monthly meeting. \nThe agenda for the meeting may be found here. \nAll Clay County voters are invited to attend our monthly meeting at the Corner Coffee & Wine Shop in Hayesville. The Clay County Democratic Party monthly meeting is on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Our meeting format begins with a half hour to meet and socialize at the beginning of the meeting starting at 5:30PM.  The informal socialization time will end at 6:00 PM at which time our guest speaker will begin.  Finally\, the business meeting will start at the conclusion of our guest speaker’s presentation\, typically around 6:30 PM and the business meeting typically runs about a half an hour.   The business portion of the meeting is open for all to attend\, and any Clay County registered democrats may vote in business meeting motions if they wish.
