Early Voting
Residents of Clay County will be able to vote in person early at the Clay County Board of Elections.

When (for NC 2024 General Election):
October 17 – Nov 2, 2024
Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Saturday, Nov 2, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm (this is the only Saturday for early voting)
If you are not currently registered, you may register and vote the same day during the Early Voting period of an election. You must bring photo ID and proper identification to verify your residency. To learn more about same day registration and voting CLICK HERE.
Vote by Mail (i.e. Absentee Voting)
Follow these 5 steps for absentee voting
- Fill Out The State Absentee Ballot Request Form As Soon As Possible
- Return The State Absentee Ballot Request Form by Mail, Fax (828-389-3757), Email (rhall@claync.us) or Returning it to Clay County Board of Elections office, 75 Riverside Circle, Suite 3, Hayesville, NC 28904
- Receive and fill out your Absentee Ballot by carefully following the instructions. Rules have changed from past elections and now include the need for a notary or two witnesses present when filling out your ballot.
- Return by mail or return to Clay County Board of Elections
- Check if your ballot was accepted is on the North Carolina Board of Elections website.
2024 General Election Deadlines for Absentee Voting are as follows:
Request for ballot (received by) 5 PM on Oct 29
Return ballot by mail (received by) 7:30 PM on Nov 5
Return ballot in person (received by) 7:30 PM on Nov 5
