Banned Book Club

August 14, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

The BBC group selection for August is Toni Morrison’s first novel, The Bluest Eye.  Since the publication of the book in 1970, it has consistently been on Banned Book Lists nationwide. Morrison received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993; in 1996 the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.  She taught at Yale, Rutgers; the State University of New York at Albany as the Schweitzer Chair; and as the Robert F. Goheen Professor at Princeton.

The Banned Book Club stands up for intellectual rights by reading and discussing books that have been banned in libraries right here in the United States.  Anyone who cares about the freedom to exchange ideas is welcome to attend.  You may also be interested in visiting The Banned Book Club website to learn how to stand up and fight book bans and also how to get access to banned books in communities where the were banned.
